Prayers for the 5th Week after Pentecost (July 9-15, 2017)

Special Note: I have started a daily prayer and meditation service called “Wake Up With God.”  I am using a phone text to send out a brief thought and prayer guide most often times based on the Daily Text for the day.  I generally send this out each night between 9 and 10 p.m. to be used the next morning as you get the day going. This is a service that can be used in conjunction with the prayer form found on this blog.  If you are interested in receiving this “daily text”, please just send me a text at 484-221-5489.  Please include your name with your text and a brief note indicating that you are interested in subscribing to this service.

Here is this week’s “Daily Prayers for Moravians.”

The watchword for the week:
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to
anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Psalm 145:8

Today we come with hearts that are broken,
Today we seek the consolation of a gracious God.
Today we come with souls that feel the guilt of sin,
Today we seek the grace of a loving savior.
Today we come weak and incomplete,
Today we seek the renewing power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 145:8-14
God is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
God is good to all,
and God’s compassion is over all that God has made.
All your works shall give thanks to you, O God,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
They shall speak of the glory of your dominion,
   and tell of your power,
to make known to all people your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your dominion.
Your reign is an everlasting reign,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
God is faithful in every word,
   and gracious in every deed.
God upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.

Let us Confess our Sins:

Dear Heavenly Father, we bow before you and confess that we have too often forgotten that you are the one who created us, who reached out to us in Jesus Christ, and who comes to us daily and abundantly through the Holy Spirit. Because we have forgotten your profound love for us we sometimes fall short of being a credible witness to you. For these things we ask your forgiveness and we also ask for your strength. Give us clear minds and open hearts so that we may share your grace in our world. Remind us to be who you would have us to be regardless of what we are doing or who we are with. Hold us to you and build our relationship with you and with those you have given us on earth.

Hear the Good News: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Give thanks to God.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

This now is a time for the reading of a scripture passage.  If you have a copy of the Moravian Daily Texts take time to read today’s texts now, but don’t rush over them as a task to be completed. If you would like to receive a daily text on your phone that often times is based on the Daily Text, please send me a text at 484-221-5489.  Include your name in the text, and a brief note indicating that you would like to subscribe to this “daily text.”
What ever text you use know that these are the words that God would have you to cherish for this day. These are words that could transform your life if you allow them to.  So read slowly and deliberately.  Pause at words or phrases that happen to catch your spirit, for these are places where God might be speaking to you. When you have finished with your reading of scriptures, take time to pray for the needs that you present today, for the needs of those you love, and for the needs of a hurting world.  May your time of prayer help you to clarify where God would want you to focus your energy. When you are ready continue with this prayer as follows:

As you taught your disciples to pray, so we pray together:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The work of the Creator is visible,
Let us respond with praise.
The example of Jesus is apparent.
Let us respond with obedience.
The wind of the Spirit is blowing,
Let us respond with joy.
The word of God is calling,
Let us respond by serving with thanksgiving

And now may the love of God; the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
Be with us now and forever. Amen.
